about
In the summer of 1993, my parents drove us from Toronto to Vancouver and back.
We were stuck together for four weeks with half of that time spent on the road in our 1988 Plymouth Voyageur Minivan. Jeremy was 14, Simon was 12, I was 9, and Pippa was 7. We kept ourselves busy. We bugged each other. Mum and Dad sang songs. We'd listen to tapes, (Jeremy remembers bringing L7 - Bricks Are Heavy, Alice In Chains - Dirt, Midnight Oil - Diesel and Dust, and Pearl Jam - 10, ). At the beginning of the trip, Mum gave us rolls of pennies which we could use towards prizes at the "store"; which included hats, travel sized board games, pieces of neon bristol board and markers which we used to make signs like "Honk if Elvis Lives" and "Wave" (Dad wondered why folks kept honking at us). And right before we left, Jeremy grabbed Dad's acoustic guitar on which we sang and wrote some of the first songs.
